Summer

All those summers,
when innocence
was bronzed,
and love grew
ripe on apple trees

All those summers
when laughter,
dappled in the leaves
and everyone you loved
was whole and near
and vital

All those summers
now in black and white
and those remaining
ask “who is that?”
in the picture that
defined your life
